Hail Damage Insurance Claim Time Limit in Dallas, Texas

Hail Damage Claim Time Limits
The time limit to file a hail damage insurance claim is started on your policy. If you have questions or can’t find the time limit, contact your insurance company and ask what your policy specifies.
People often think that hail damage insurance claims have a one (1) year time limit, but this isn’t always the case. Since many policies are written differently, even within the same insurance companies, it’s safest to read your policy or ask your insurer.
Can You Claim Hail Damage Twice?
If your property sustained hail damage one year, got repaired as part of a claim, and then got hit with a different hail storm years later--could you file for hail damage twice?
If you are still paying for your insurance policy, you can file for hail damage twice. Your insurance rate may increase, however, but this may be true even if you don’t file a claim.
Increasing insurance rates are common after multiple claims are filed or when a disaster happens in your hometown and many insurance claims are filed at the same time. In this instance, insurance claims will say your geographic area is more prone to hail damage, so they will raise their rates accordingly.
Your insurance company is not allowed to cancel your policy that has been in effect for at least sixty (60) days. So if you have a policy and need to file a claim, contact your insurance company and start the policy. Your insurance company can cancel your policy if you did not pay your premium on time or if they can prove you previously tried to file a fraudulent claim.

Consider filing a hail damage claim if any of the following have been damaged:
- Roof
- Skylights
- Windows
The Hail Damage Claim Process
If you think your property has sustained hail damage, call an inspector to check it out. Get documentation of the damage and be prepared for your insurance company to send an adjuster to also inspect the hail damage themselves.
Property hail damage sometimes is obvious--we see broken windows and skylights amongst other items. But even if you can’t see obvious damage to your roof, get it inspected anyway. A simple inspection could save you the later pain of having to handle roof leaks and water damage. Even a small leak that goes undetected for months could provide enough humidity to start mold growth in your attic.
If your property has obvious damage or if a roof inspector or storm damage restoration company has found damage, call your insurance company to get your claims process started. Make sure to ask:
- The amount of your deductible
- The name, phone number, and email address of your insurance adjuster
- What your claim number is
If you hire a storm damage restoration company to repair your property, they’ll need all of that information to help you process your claim.
If hail has caused water damage in your property, call a water damage restoration company immediately. Delaying water damage cleanup will result in more damage to your property.
