Reconstruction After Water Damaged Hardwood Floor

Water Damage in Dallas, TX

After a short vacation, a homeowner returned to their Dallas home and walked into water damage.  Under normal circumstances, hardwood flooring may be saved if the water is extracted quickly and then the floors dried using specialized drying mats.  Even slight cupping or small buckling may sometimes be fixed.  Unfortunately, too much water had absorbed into the hardwood over days and the floors had to be taken out.

iTel Samples Help Reach a Fair Settlement

When flooring has been permanently damaged, our technicians will take an iTel sample of your damaged floor.  This sample is taken to our facility, where an administrator will test your hardwood floor sample and send it to a lab.  The lab’s testing will determine the make of your floor and suggest a replacement cost. This report is given to your insurance adjuster, and they will determine if replacing your hardwood flooring is covered under your homeowner’s insurance, and, if it is, determine the price they will pay to buy new flooring and install it.

It’s often that many homeowners decide to upgrade their flooring at this point.  A homeowners insurance policy will typically only allow a replacement to get your home back to preloss condition, so any additional expenses from an upgrade will be the responsibility of the homeowner.  We are glad to accept the wishes from our clients to upgrade their flooring, and we routinely work with homeowners to make this possible.

The Reconstruction Process for Hardwood Flooring

After your adjuster approves our request to install new flooring, our reconstruction team gets straight to work.  A reconstruction manager will meet with you and ask what color of new flooring you’d like.  After you make a decision, we order the floor.  Hardwood floor requires a period of acclimation before it can be installed.

Hardwood acclimation lets your new hardwood floor reach the same moisture content as the rest of your home.  During acclimation, your new flooring will sit inside your home for up to two (2) weeks, and this process is absolutely essential to make sure that the floor doesn’t shrink or expand once it’s been installed.  Once your hardwood flooring has been acclimated, we install it. You don’t even have to be home during installation -- we’ll just install a temporary lockbox and take care of everything for you.

Throughout the project, we keep in contact with you and your insurance adjuster to let them know the progress of your reconstruction.
